Become the Expert

In the program I go into detail about how to become viewed as a subject matter expert – in our case a Property Management Expert.  Here are a few techniques that have worked for me:

1) Write up your experience – it can be overseeing projects at your own house, for friends and family, if you have a real estate sales license, general project manager and customer service experience, any courses you’ve taken.

2) Write an article for a local or state property management periodical – or a blog (even your own blog).  If you don’t have experience – do research and write up a how to story.  People may see your article and reach out – but even more important – when you go on a sales call you will have an impressive article from a magazine or something that will enhance your credibility.

3) Public speaking – most people are fearful of talking in front of people – so if you can, you will set yourself apart.  anyone who speaks will gain credibility – and you can let prospects know the talks you’ve given/been involved with.  A bonus is that someone who sees you speak may be a prospect for you.  Again, you can research the topic and speak about it to enhance your presentation.

A  marketing buzz word these days is to become an industry “thought leader” aka an expert.  Experts get people to seek them out – rather than having to use traditional marketing and the associated expense to drive prospects to you.  Start working on getting people to seek you out as a property management thought leader and watch your business grow.
